Autumn Ullswater

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Monday, October 15, 2018, In : Photos
It was too beautiful a day to stay indoors so popped up to Ullswater this afternoon.  Staring at Glenridding the autumn colours were stunning against the clear blue skies.

Then late afternoon onto Pooley Bridge where shooting into the sun caused me a few problems bur I still managed a nice picture from besides the pier

and was enchanted by this swan family.

Last Seaside Days Didn't disappoint

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Sunday, July 15, 2018, In : Photos
The weather stayed superb for the last days on this trip to the Moray Firth.
At Spey Bay I noticed something shining amongst the pebbles and on closer inspection found webs holding water drops spun between the individual pebbles.

We found a rugged beach at Portsoy where getting down to the shoreline gave me the best pictures.

Findochty harbour was very picturesque with the blue skies and bright sunlight.

And the final sunset of the trip saw the sky painted in shades of amber.

Started the Edit and Cut of the Highlands

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Friday, September 15, 2017, In : Photos
I've started the edit and cut of the pictures taken over the last few weeks in the Scottish Highlands and along the Moray Firth.  I'm pleasantly surprised that there are quite a few I'm very happy with as the weather wasn't what I would consider to be the best for photography.  Here's just a few to start with:

Sunlit Fells, Cloudy Sky and the Nine Standards.

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, August 10, 2017, In : Photos
Late in the afternoon yesterday the clouds stated to break as the sun pushed through.  Went for a stroll and took the camera as those conditions are the ones where I find the potential to capture the sunlit ground against the cloudy sky.  I wasn't disappointed when I looked at this picture this morning.

Taken from the Wharton Hall path looking over Nateby and you can see the nine standards on top of the fells ( probably more clearly when I print the picture at a larger size).

Acorn Bank - Blooms, Bees and Butterflies.

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Monday, August 7, 2017, In : Photos
I'd read that the gardens at Acorn Bank were looking good so paid a visit.  I was delighted to find the lavender in full bloom (and scent) and covered in bees.  As it was a little windy it was quite difficult to get a clear shot with the swaying plant and the bees moving quickly from one bloom to another - but I persisted

The butterflies also were enjoying the nectar feast offered by the gardens

Water Lily Buds and Blooms were floating in the sunken pond.

The pond in the wild gardens was quite f...

Sunlit Aira

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, In : Photos
Took some friends to Aria Falls yesterday.  It was a hot sunny day and as we reached the bottom of the falls the sun was lighting the waterfall and casting dappled shadow and lights onto the vertical rocks through the leafy trees. It felt quite magical.

New lens for camera

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, In : Photos
My new camrea lens arrived today 18 - 300mm zoom.  Early birthday present.  Like a big kid I couldn't wait to try it.
So even though it was pretty hot outside set off for a walk along the viaduct where the overhanging trees provided welcome shade and created some nice tonal sushine and shadow shots:

Took a few flowers to try the close up range.

I think I like the lens

However you'll find Highland lads amongst the sheep.

And Lone Sapling Glen Brittle in the woodlands ( ok so its not technically a woodland but that was the best category I have until I get round to creating a Scotland gallery ).

I hope you enjoy these photos - and as always all are availabl...

Blossom and Brough

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, In : Photos
Yesterday I set off to photograph the fells from a vantage point above Brough Sowerby.  By the time I was there ( having stopped to talk to the lambs along the way )

the weather in the direction of the fells had changed ( hey ho this is Cumbria ), however the sloe blossom was looking good ( guess where the berries for the sloe gin will be obtained from? ).

and the changing weather gave me some dramatic skies over the castle.

Photo from Photo = Pleased Customer

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, In : Photos
I was contacted a few weeks ago by a customer to ask if I could help with a photo of her brother who'd passed away recently.  She wanted me to produce a larger photo from a small one she'd had in a small frame.  The Photo was about 3 inches square and had been cut to fit a small mount.  Anyway I agreed to see what I could do with it.  I'm pleased to report that I made my customer cry happily as I'd photographed the photograph, did some cropping and got it into an A4 mount / frame which I then...

And then there is the ruin of ancient Pendraggon Castle - that fires the imagination:

Along with the stunning views of the valley that can be enjoyed from the elevated position of this fabulos place:
