Paint Playtime

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Friday, May 11, 2018, In : sketching
Have spent some time this week playing with paint.  It's been awhile since I used my inktense pencils so did a small picture of Staffin Beach with them.

When I spotted the work of Jay Nottingham in a gallery in Portree I thought I'd have a go.  This time I got out the watersoluble pastels.  Jays works in oils so my attempt wasn't likely to be very successful.  May have another go "in the syle of" using acrylics.

I spent an afternoon with Marion Body Evans and had the opportunity to play with Da...

South Rhins

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, March 15, 2018, In : sketching
Have just returned from a few days staying on the South Rhins Scotland.  The weather was varied but I got some lovely photos.  On the less fine days ( ie. when it rained hard all day ) I spent some time doing charcoal and coloured pencil drawings from some of the photos.

This piece of tree was on Sandhead Beach

And we had a good day at Portpatrick

Blustery Beadnell

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, In : sketching
Beadnell has proved to be very blustery over the last few days.  We managed a fabulous fine day on Beadnell  Beach with wonderful light effects.

We dodged lashing rain and hailstone and got a picture of Bamburgh Castle across a stormy sea from Seahouses4

And in the evenings I've done a little sketching with pens and watersoluble pastels.

Leaving Portknockie

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, In : sketching
My time in the Highland is at an end.  We've had changeable weather which has resulted in fewer photos but quite a bit of sketching done when it was pouring outside.
I had a go at Les Soles from the photo I took of the Picasso painting:

We've spent allot of time walking the coastal path - beautiful but rugged shoreline from which I've done a  few pen and wash sketches:

Cullen King

Portknockie Rocks ( this is the view from the cottage on a relatively calm evening )

Rocky shoreline at Cullen

Scenery, Sunsets and Sketching

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, July 6, 2017, In : sketching
In case anyone's wondering why I've been quiet for a few days?  I've been a little busy around Galloway where I've experienced some stunning scenery:

Drummore ( where I stayed )

A very picturesque Port Logan.

Pink sky across Luce Bay from the cottage.

Followed by a Purple and Pink sky 2 days later

Rather allot of bunnies have been spending the evenings in the back garden nibbling the clover.

And wildlife has been abundant on the beaches.

Picturesque Skye

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Saturday, May 13, 2017, In : sketching
In case anyone thinks I've been a bit quiet - I've been enjoying some beautiful scenery and weather on the Isle of Skye.  The camera has many shots to be viewed and edited and the sketch book has been busy with one sketch per day.

We've been overlooking Loch Varkasaig in our home from home

The seals at Dunvegan were very laid back

Neist Point stretched into the sea.

The colourful buildings on Portree Harbour stood out against the dark hills in the background.

Coral Beach - white sands, blue ocean ...

Bamburgh Break

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, January 26, 2017, In : sketching
Enjoying a seaside break near Bamburgh.  Weather has been very kind and I got some lovely photos that I've sketched from in the evenings.  Bit to cool to stop and sketch outside during the day.
Day 1 woke up early to an orange glow in the sky and realising the sun hadn't risen set off to the beach near the cottage.  What a treat I was given as the sun rose at the side of Bamburgh Castle.

I'm afraid my sketch with coloured pencils didn't give the depth of colour - but what an acrylic painting th...

About my Blog

Margaret Shaw My blog summarises my life as an artist. It's a bit like a diary: New artworks completed. Artworks in Progress. Photos I've taken. Things that inspire me. Where I'm exhibiting. Things I've learnt. And anything else that I think blogworthy.
