Todays encounters
Glad I took my camera on todays meander around Hartley. Snowdrops looked lovely lit by the dropping sun. Met my first 2019 lambs. Caught the Kirkby Stephen parrots in flight. Finally I liked the silhouette of the Wharton oak against the dusk sky.

Sunset Sky - at 3rd attempt
This is my third attempt at my sunset sky - achieved with pastels over an acrylic ink ground. Finally liking where this is going and hoping that I don’t mess up at the land stage: http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wip-whartonsunset.php
CATching and Bee Stones
With a few art shows booked this year I’ve decided to paint some new stones as my home supply is low. 6 designs at the drawing stage ready for transfer to prepared stones: http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wipstones.php
Scenery, Sunshine and Sheep
On my way home after my shift in the Taint Modern the sunshine was lighting the snow covered scenery and a herd of sheep had been put in the nearby fields. Into my walking boots, bob hat on and camera round neck set off on a meander. The fields and fells were stunning with long shadows being cast by the low afternoon sun. Some of the sheep seemed happy to pose for the camera. Others weren’t getting along quite so well - now I know where the term butting heads come from. Finally as the sun really started to drop really low the distant Pennines lit up in tones of pink and purple.
Chatting to the Locals as the Sunset over Nateby
Ventured into the cold late this afternoon, Sunset wasn’t as spectacular as I expected but it was nice to catch the end of the day as the world was blanketed with frost and snow. Then stopped for a chat with some of the locals as we neared home.

Pastel Clean Up
Figured that I could manage to clean my pastels with an injured shoulder. Bought myself a new box and got to work. Some were so mucky I didn’t even know what lay beneath the grime. Look at all those lovely colours.

Progress on Parrots
Another painting in progress - started painting with inktense: http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wip-parrots.php
2 Lakes, 2 media, 2 very different paintings in progress
My Derwentwater acrylic painting is progressing
nicely - very dark and I’m liking the drama I’m creating. I’m approaching
the finishing touches which will be pencilled onto the canvas before adding the
acrylic to make sure I’m happy with the proportions.
http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wipfromstrandshag.php
My Ullswater pastel painting doesn’t seem to be
going too well. Its a completely different mood from my Derwent painting in
progress and I find myself thinking more drama - or am I being influenced by
the boldness of the Derwent acrylic? On my Ullswater work I can see that my
middle mountain has developed a smooth edge and my waterline has gone
wobbly. Corrections required.

Some of 2018 Favourites
As the year draws to a close I’ve added some of my favourite pictures of 2018 to my about me web page - http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/about.php and updated my profile picture. Here’s to a happy 2019 - cheers everyone.
Stunning Skies
What a stunning sky we were treated to this evening over Kirkby Stephen. Shot from the bedroom window.
Derwentwater in progress
I have to admit that this one has been on the “in progress” shelf for some time ( Aug 2017 was the start date ). Feeling inclined to get out the acrylics with an afternoon of painting time - here’s where I got to yesterday ( 29th Dec 2018 ). You can see the work in progress on my web site - http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wipfromstrandshag.php
A Christmas Eve Stroll
A lovely walk this afternoon around my home town ( Kirkby Stephen ). We watched the sheep jostling for position around the hay. Think we can safely say there was a definite winner - A title of Hay Ewe springs to mind. Passing the church as the sun disappeared gave a tranquil end to this Christmas Eve.
Holly and Berries
A seasonal picture - maybe next years Christmas Card? You can see the step by step development of this by visiting the artwork in progress page: http://www.margaretshawartwork.com/wipholly.php
