Sea Shells and Starfish

The last - for now - of the sea shells series.  Sea Shells and Starfish has been finished after several months ( due to sprained wrist not being able to pick up its large heavy working board.  I've enjoyed doing this series and my imagination was allowed to roam in creating the starfish.

I've got 4 paintings on the go right now:
Sea Shells - This is a large one and the problem has been managing the weight of the paint board with a sprained wrist - almost better now so hoping to make progress on this one.
Morandi style still life -that I'm painting for the Oct / Nov About.com painting project.  Not sure how this one will turn out but I am discovering that the Morandi style isn't as simple as it looks.  It took me several goes to work out a nice arrangement  before I even started...

Person Study

This weeks watercolour class subject was people.  I've never drawn or painted a person before so it was a challenge.  I got the torso wrong - too long.  I also had fun in making the details up as the picture I was working from was a black shape against the light sky with no details of the person visible.  Point of going to class is to learn and I'd say I'm learning.

Class Project finished

I did  my homework yesterday and got the painting we started in class finished.  Quite like this - just wish I could take more credit for the composition and the tonal values.  All good practice and as I've visited Scotland many times I must have a photo I can work from to create a painting I can call my own as I really like how the colours worked out on this.

Creative Classses re-commenced

This week I've re-commenced at creative watercolour classes.  We've started by working on a harbour scene with multiple perspectives, reflections and huge contrasts in sunlight / shadows.  We were given a black white copy of a painting to work from and have to put in all the colours ourselves.  It looked fairly simple until I started painting - should have realised that we weren't going to be given something simple to do - the point of going to class is to learn..........................watch...
