Crocuses

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Saturday, March 31, 2012, In : New paintings

The 3rd in the Purple series - Crocuses.  These flowers were brightening up the grounds of Walmsley Parish Church, Egerton on a fine but cold March day.  Painted mainly with water soluble pastels (used gouache to lighten the highlights and black tube watercolour to darken the background).  No 4 in the series is an Iris - drawn and waiting to be painted.

Purple Rose - No 2 in purple series.

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, In : New paintings

I managed to get in a comfortable position to finish my purple rose.  The 2nd in a series of purple flower paintings that I've been asked to do.  I'm not sure that this one matches the first in the series purple pasques so I'll probably end up doing some additional purple flowers.  You can see these 2 together in my flora paintings. The next one Iris (no 3) is drawn and I'm already thinking crocuses as I've been out and about with the camera to capture this spring bloom.

Painting on hold for a few days

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, March 15, 2012, In : What I'm working on
After an operation on my foot, painting is on hold for a few days as I'm unable to stand and when sitting need to have my foot elevated.  Can only put toes down to walk and finding that crutches are hard work.  Crawling seems to be the fastest way of getting around.  Including crawling into the shower cubicle and the sitting on the floor with my leg stuck out as I'm not allowed to get the wound wet.  The good news is that the pain is starting to ease - unless I catch the foot in which case th...

Yellow Rose Finished

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Thursday, March 8, 2012, In : New paintings

My latest painting -
Yellow Rose.  Created with pastels (pastels being a favourite media for painting flowers).
I've always loved yellow roses ( they made up my wedding bouquet ).  This rose has bloomed in my garden since 2010 - a wedding anniversary present from my friend that year.

Yellow Rose

Posted by Margaret Shaw on Friday, March 2, 2012, In : What I'm working on
I've re-drawn the purple rose - decided it was bit lacking in petals as well as sitting in mud.  However before getting stuck into the purple one, I have decided to complete work on my yellow pastel rose that's been sitting on the easel for few weeks.  Hopefully the yellow rose will contribute to the final look of the purple one.
