Margaret Shaw - Tuition & Workshops

I'm a professional associate of the SAA.  I have tutored art beginners classes/workshops, creative workshops and mentored/coached people to develop their skills.  I work one to one with both beginners and more experienced artists, introducing them to media and techniques. I also give talks on my photography from an artistic perspective.

If you're interested in how I approach my artwork, visit the artwork in progress page on this web site.  You'll see my processes for recent pieces (mistakes included).

I live in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria so if you're looking for a workshop/tuition within my vicinity contact me to discuss what I can offer you.

Here's what'scoming up:

Reflective Swan
24th July at Castle Gallery in Appleby. 10am to 3pm(ish)

Join me in painting this single swan and her reflection into aqua water.  Suitable for beginners, using soft pastels, you’ll draw the swan then work on grey pastel paper to produce the painting. I’ll introduce you to tools and techniques for drawing and using pastels.  At the end of the day you’ll mount and protect your image ready to take home for framing. All materials and lunch are provided, and you’ll take home a small starter set of pastels to continue your pastel journey. £45 for the day. Please bring an apron or similar (alternatively wear something that can take a few stains).

Join me in painting this Monoflower with pastels. Working on your colour selection of pastel paper with a range of white/grey/black pastels, you’ll develop this monochrome flower step by step. I’ll introduce you to techniques and tools to draw and produce a pastel painting. At the end of the workshop you’ll have your artwork mounted and protected to take home ready for framing. All materials are provided, and you’ll also take home a small set of pastels to continue your pastel journey. Please bring an apron or similar (alternatively wear something old). Tea and coffee are provided but bring a packed lunch. £40 for the day.

I'm delivering a short pastel workshop on Friday 30th August and demonstrating at the Artisan Market on Sunday 1st Sept  as part of the Penrith Arts Festival.  More details will follow on how to book on the workshop.
