Margaret Shaw - About Me

I've always liked pictures.  As a child I played for hours with a camera (no film in it as it was expensive to have photos developed then).

I liked art at secondary school but didn't like the art teachers so didn't pursue art to examination levels.  Then one holiday some years ago I took an introductory watercolour class, realised "I can do this", and became hooked.

I paint and draw because I enjoy it.  Working with a variety of art materials, what I use for my artworks depends on the subject and the effects I want to achieve.  I take inspiration from the places I visit, looking at the landscape and the detail.  Added imagination produces pieces such as my CATching series.  I find satisfaction in having an idea, taking that blank piece of paper or canvas and producing a unique piece of art.

Over the years I've had a selection of cameras as my photographic skills have developed.  Now I have my "big camera" for the serious shoots bur with the improvement in camera phones its easy to always have a camera with me.  I find pleasure capturing and sharing some of the beauty in the world as I encounter it.

When exhibiting my artwork I like to meet and chat with anyone who has an interest in these topics.

I live in Kirkby Stephen, in the beautiful Eden Valley Cumbria, England - a source of inspiration and the location of many of my photos.

I continue to develop my skills.  Learning and trying new things and passing these experiences onto others.  I’m aware that my artistic journey still has some way to go.  It will probably never end.
